White for the Fight Against Lung Cancer

Chris always wanted to raise awareness of lung cancer and get it the attention this despicable disease deserves, especially during November—Lung Cancer Awareness Month. He was upset that breast cancer—not lung cancer—was still getting all the media attention, with pink everywhere.

Back in 2012, he made the following tongue-in-cheek announcement on CaringBridge:

Lung cancer kills more people each year than the other top three cancers combined but receives less funding than any of the other three. White is the color for lung cancer. In honor of lung cancer survivors, pro baseball, for the World Series, will mark the foul lines white, the games will be played with white baseballs and home plate will be white. For NFL football games, the ball will be laced with white lacing, the sidelines, hash marks and yard lines will be painted white, and the officials will wear black and white uniforms.

Chris was interviewed by the McKinney Courier-Gazette and Frisco Enterprise newspapers in 2012, and they wrote great articles about his surprise diagnosis to help bring awareness to the disease.
